Kallerdahl/Lindgård/Ward
Bio
This piano trio, featuring Fabian Kallerdahl on piano, Ossian Ward on drums, and Albin Lindgård on bass, has quickly become a force in the Scandinavian jazz scene. Their journey began in the autumn of 2020 during the brief window when Sweden allowed live concerts amid the pandemic. These three musicians came together at Gothenburg’s renowned Unity Jazz club for two nights of electrifying performances, offering a starved audience a much-needed dose of live music. Their shared passion for 70s rock, jazz standards, and a free-spirited approach to improvisation created an instant connection, both among themselves and with their audience.

Fabian Kallerdahl, a member of the highly acclaimed group Musicmusicmusic, is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of jazz. His playful yet intricate style on the piano, blending traditional jazz with avant-garde elements, sets the tone for the trio. Ossian Ward, the driving force behind Gothenburg’s HOME collective and one of the city’s most in-demand drummers, brings a fresh, energetic pulse to the group. Meanwhile, Albin Lindgård, a bass powerhouse who has made his mark in both Paris and Gothenburg, adds a deep, rhythmic foundation. Together, they’ve created a unique sound that hopefully is as unpredictable as it is captivating.

Their debut album, recorded live at Unity Jazz, was praised as “Live Album of the Year” in 2022. It features a mix of Roberta Flack, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young classics, alongside jazz standards and originals, showcasing their versatility and flair for reinterpreting familiar tunes. The success of the album extended beyond the concert hall, with streams across digital platforms skyrocketing, earning them a growing fanbase both in Sweden and internationally.

The trio’s music thrives on the energy of live performance, feeding off the spontaneity that comes with being in the moment. Their follow-up album, recorded once again at Unity Jazz, takes this ethos even further. Featuring Swedish folk tunes like "Visa från Utanmyra", 80s hits such as "Changes," and timeless jazz standards, the album captures the group’s playful spirit while maintaining the warmth and richness of a live jazz club setting. Masterfully mixed by Åke Linton, known for his work with the legendary Esbjörn Svensson Trio, the album envelops listeners in the trio’s rich soundscapes.

With artwork by Anders Annikas, the album’s cover reflects the evolution of their music and their ever-growing connection with audiences. As they continue to perform and release music, this trio stands out not just for their technical prowess but for their ability to create a space where anything can happen. Every performance is unique, and every album is a snapshot of that fleeting magic..
